Looking for creative ways to market your business without breaking the bank? Finding the balance between efficiency and effectivness when it comes to marketing can be a real challenge for small business owners. Author, small business expert, and “Infopreneur” Stephanie Chandler shares her wisdom about how to utilize information products to market small businesses, as well as a tool for generating revenue.

1. What is an Infopreneur?

An expert who sells information in the form of ebooks, reports, seminars, teleseminars, etc. I believe that we’re all experts in something and that expertise can become a great opportunity!

2. How can marketing information products benefit a small business owner?

There are two primary ways to leverage information products.
1. As a marketing tool – give away booklets at trade shows, offer a downloadable report as incentive to entice newsletter sign-ups, etc.

2. As a revenue generator. There are dozens of ways to generate revenue with products. You can create and sell your own books, workbooks, ebooks, etc. You can record speaking engagements and then sell the recording as a product. You can bundle several information products together such as an ebook and an audio series—to create a big package offer!

3. How should a small business owner go about choosing a topic for information products?

As with any product or service, the key is to find a need and fill it. Consider what questions you are asked most frequently or how you can solve your clients’ problems.

4. What are the best types of information products to get started with?

If you like to write, I would suggest an ebook or special report. These can be converted to PDFs and downloaded from anywhere. If you prefer to speak, consider audio recordings, teleseminars or in-person seminars.

5. What is the first thing a small business owner who wants to begin marketing information products should do?

Focus on building a high-traffic website! This is a big challenge, but there are simple steps that help (such as search engine optimization). I have lots of articles on my site (www.BusinessInfoGuide.com) and a workbook called “Marketing Your Business Online!”
