Board certified plastic surgeon David T.W. Chiu, MD, FACS, FAAP, is being honored for his passion and dedication by representing the plastic surgeons of New York with inclusion into The Leading Physicians of the World.  Among his many years in practice, Dr. Chiu has consistently achieved success for all of his patients. Dr. Chiu is currently the Chief of Hand Surgery, Director of New York Nerve Center, part of the Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery of New York University Medical Center.  An accomplished hand surgeon, Dr. Chiu is a pioneer in research on peripheral nerves, and is credited for the use of a vein graft as a nerve conduit and came up with a new entrance approach to spinal cord regeneration surgery. In addition to his positions at NYU, he maintains a private practice on Park Avenue in New York City. He currently holds a tenured position at New York University as Professor of Surgery (Plastic Surgery & Neurosurgery) and a position at Columbia University as Adjunct Professor of Anatomy and Cell Biology. Dr. Chiu received his medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in New York.  He then went on to complete his internship and residency in general surgery at Barnes Hospital Washington University Medical Center, and plastic surgical residency at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center.  His prestigious fellowship opportunity was completed at New York University Medical Center in Hand Surgery, and in Zurich Switzerland as a Microsurgery Traveling fellowship.  Dr. Chiu is considered a worldwide authority on hand surgery, nerve surgery, and microsurgery.  He has won many awards for his work, including the Hanno Millesi Award for his contributions to the field of peripheral nerves.
