The International Association of Healthcare Professionals has carefully selected Jiafan Liu, PhD, MD, to represent pathology in their publication, The Leading Physicians of the World. Dr. Liu’s selection is a significant representation of his passion and dedication for the field of pathology.  He is considered to be among the best among his many years in practice. Dr. Liu serves AW Cytohistology Laboratory, located in Bakersfield, California. He specializes in using pathology to diagnosis cancers in various organ systems, especially those in the breast, female reproductive tract and GI tract.  His favorite moment is when he can identify a cancer cell among a non-specific background of other cells.  He is board certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology, and also practices surgical pathology.  His belief is that cancer should be found as early as possible, for the best cure. In 1986, Dr. Liu received his medical degree at Second Military Medical University in Shanghai, China. His internship was also in China at Jinling Hospital, then Dr. Liu came to the United States to complete his pathology residency at University of Missouri School of Medicine.  He then completed a surgical pathology fellowship at this same University.  Dr. Liu maintains membership in the American College of Pathologists and also has a PhD in cancer genetics research from the Medical College of Ohio.
