Press Release: Connecticut Technical High School System Purchases 1000 Seats of SolidWorks Education to Prepare Students for Workforce
Statewide implementation of SolidWorks Education for high school STEM curriculum
MIDDLETOWN, CT, USA — June, 2013 — The state of Connecticut strives to improve STEM curriculum to boost student performance and increase the return on education investment by adopting high standards for math and science courses taught in its schools. In support of these goals around STEM skills, the Connecticut Technical High School System (CTHSS) chose SolidWorks® Education Edition software. With the help of Technical Education Solutions, LLC, a leading SolidWorks education reseller, CTHSS will use SolidWorks Education solutions to support a statewide Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) curriculum whose mission is to prepare graduates for engineering programs in college and the workforce.
CTHSS is deploying 1000 seats of SolidWorks Education Edition across its 16 school district in 11th and 12th grade classrooms. The CTHSS works closely with trade and technology advisory committees around the state. These committees support program needs and have recommended SolidWorks as the primary software solution used by mechanical designers and engineers in industry.
In order to support the recent installation of the curriculum, the school system is providing training for the 27 teachers on SolidWorks Education Edition software. The teachers will also work toward becoming Certified SolidWorks Associates, which will allow them to administer SolidWorks certification exams to students.
“Reinforcing STEM theory in classes throughout the CTHSS with SolidWorks Education Edition provides teachers the right tools to help students solve problems and relate the concepts aligned to the real world and their science, math, and CADD classes. Students will also benefit from the opportunity to explore these classroom concepts outside of school with the Student Engineering Kit, which provides them with home access,” said John Murphy, the Connecticut state consultant for CAD departments.
“We’re happy to work with a school system like CTHSS, that have recognized the need to provide strong STEM education to enable its students to explore their creative problem-solving ability, apply textbook theory and experience the industrial relevance of their CADD classes,” said Marie Planchard, Director Education Community, SolidWorks, Dassault Systèmes. “After graduating high school, students can seamlessly transition into post-secondary education, including apprenticeships, where they can continue to learn advanced engineering concepts on the SolidWorks platform.”
SolidWorks Education Edition software provides a wide range of tools for educators including a full CAD curriculum, SolidWorks Premium and SolidWorks Simulation. Both teachers and students have access to a variety of online educational resources such as video tutorials, articles and blogs for exploratory learning.
