Press Release: Michael Cavanaugh Returns to the Kennedy Center for National Symphony Orchestra’s Pops Series
PRESS RELEASE (10/17/2013) – Dubbed “the new voice of the American Rock & Roll songbook” by Billboard Magazine, Michael Cavanaugh was a natural choice for the National Symphony Orchestra’s (NSO) 2013 Pops series. His performances on October 25 and 26 mark Cavanaugh’s return to the Kennedy Center for his second collaboration with the orchestra.
A charismatic performer and musician, made famous for his piano and lead vocals in the Broadway musical Movin’ Out, Cavanaugh is a Tony and Grammy-nominated talent certain to bring his acclaimed interpretations of America’s favorite songs to Kennedy Center audiences.
His collaboration with the NSO, The Songs of Elton John & More will include his celebrated renditions of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” “Benny and the Jets,” “Rocket Man,” “Crocodile Rock,” “Candle in the Wind,” and more-plus several other rock and roll classics and a few special surprises.
“My first appearance with the NSO was in April of 2010 and it remains one of the highlights of my career,” says Cavanaugh. “The production’s material is sure to be a crowd-pleaser and the caliber of the orchestra is outstanding.
