Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Sunday pushed for closer commercial and strategic ties with India, to offset China’s growing might. Abe became the first Japanese Prime Minister to be the chief guest at Republic Day celebrations, and marvel at India’s military might showcased on parade. He was accompanied by his wife Akie Abe and President Pranab Mukherjee. India and Japan seek an early deal on nuclear cooperation that would open up the Indian market to Japanese players, officials said, reflecting another shift in Tokyo’s policy on a sensitive issue.
