Press Release: Marcie Granahan Named New Executive Director of NFAIS™
LIGHTNING RELEASES (1/28/2014) – The NFAIS Board of Directors announced today that Marcie Granahan has been named Executive Director, effective January 6, 2014. Ms. Granahan succeeds Bonnie Lawlor who is actively assuring a smooth transition of leadership responsibilities after more than a decade of dedicated service as Executive Director of NFAIS.
“We are very fortunate to have a successful and experienced leader like Marcie Granahan join NFAIS,” said Suzanne BeDell, President, NFAIS Board of Directors. “Marcie has a consistent record of increasing value to membership organizations and their industries in her previous roles.”
After an extensive search led by Sterling Martin Associates, the Board unanimously confirmed hiring Ms. Granahan, who brings more than 25 years of experience in a range of organization types including national, nonprofit, and for-profit. Prior to NFAIS, Granahan served in CEO/Executive Director positions at the National Center for Responsible Gaming, the U.S. Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association, and most recently the American Alliance for Theatre and Education. Granahan has a B.A. in Communications from Salisbury State University in Maryland, is a Certified Association Executive, and is a member of the Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations and the American Society of Association Executives. Her unique skill set and experience will continue to drive NFAIS in distinguishing its member experience as the industry standard in providing value and thought leadership.
“I am impressed by the caliber of organizations that comprise NFAIS membership and the thought-provoking programming that NFAIS staff has been delivering,” said Granahan. “From my first interaction with the Board, I knew right away there is so much I can contribute to, and learn from, this amazing organization and industry. I look forward to meeting members and other industry leaders at the Annual Conference in February.”
Granahan is the 10th Executive Director in NFAIS’ 56-year history. Comprised of a diverse community of content and technology providers collaborating in the development of effective solutions related to the current challenges and opportunities facing the 21st century digital environment, NFAIS is recognized as a forum for thought leadership. NFAIS creates a collaborative environment for exploring all aspects of information. Members contribute to numerous initiatives including the development of Recommended Best Practices, webinars, discussion roundtables, and Annual Conferences.
“NFAIS is a unique member-driven organization serving all disciplines and market sectors of information services,” said Bonnie Lawlor, NFAIS Executive Director 2002-2013. “While we started as a membership group for abstracting and indexing organizations, our current membership now extends to libraries, social services and information consultants, among others. NFAIS is dedicated to providing advanced information solutions and a collaborative environment to discuss critical issues among the information community in disciplines from physical sciences, to humanities, to technology. I am delighted that the Board found an Executive Director with the breadth of experience and diversity that will resonate with our expansive range of member organizations.”
Lawlor, an active member of NFAIS since 1987, orchestrated the programming of the 2014 NFAIS Annual Conference theme, Giving Voice to Content: Re-envisioning the Business of Information to be held February 23-25 in Philadelphia, PA. Bonnie plans to remain active in the industry and in NFAIS for the foreseeable future.
