- More than 110 Million fake ‘BeSafe’ Condoms Seized 2013
- Number is likely to double in 2014
LIGHTNING RELEASES: London, United Kingdom – 2014, March – BBC News in April 2013 reported that more than 110 million fake Chinese-manufactured condoms, illegally labelled as ‘BeSafe’ on the packaging, were seized in Ghana, Africa. In 2014, it is likely that this number would have risen when reports are due out late-March 2014.
BeSafe Corporation Limited director, Mr. Keyvan Khodakhah, states: “Beware of counterfeit condoms being sold illegally in Ghana, or via third-party websites.”
Additionally, reports from researchers for the premium condom manufacturer have surfaced regarding counterfeit BeSafe condoms being sold via non-licensed, third-party websites.
According to BeSafe’s Director: “we have not sold any of our condoms to Ghana, nor to any other African markets. Our sales market has been limited to the Middle East and portions of the EU thus far, with planned expansion to the entire EU and Turkey by end of fiscal year 2014.
“We would like to extend our sincerest apologies to any and all consumers who were unfortunate enough to be duped into purchasing the fake condoms.”
BeSafe executives remind consumers that their condoms are ultra-premium in quality, in the top tier pricing range; any cheap condoms obtained online are likely to be fake counterfeits, with risk of defective materials including holes and lack of STD protection.
Company officials urge consumers to only purchase products from the corporate website, as they do not market through wholesalers, third parties, or retail websites such as eBay. Company Director, Khodakhah, also announces that a new line of personal care products will be launching at the beginning of Q3 of 2014.
Business consulting firm Global Industry Analysts Inc predicts that the condom retail market will hit 27 billion units sold annually by 2015, or the equivalent of £9bn ($6 billion), which would be a new all-time record.
