Facebook Post Saves Mountain Climber’s Life
Geography Professor John All was conducting climate research on Mount Himlung in the Himalayas when he fell 70ft through the crevasse of a glacier. Landing on a small ledge of ice, the professor had a dislocated shoulder, and several broken bones, including his knee, elbow, and 5 ribs. Unfortunately for John, the rest of his research team had turned back earlier in the day before the fall, so Facebook was his only hope. Posting on the American Climber Science Program Facebook page, John called for help, and 19 hours after the initial fall, he was safely in a Kathmandu hospital.
