Kirkland’s Stock Rating Upgraded by Zacks (KIRK)

Zacks’ analyst wrote, “We upgrade our recommendation on Kirkland’s to Neutral from Outperform following decent first-quarter fiscal 2014 results and an optimistic outlook for the upcoming quarter. Earnings of $0.12 per share surpassed both the year-ago results and beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 20.0%, backed by higher sales and comps. Top line also improved year over year and beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 6.9% and 2.2%, respectively, backed by higher-than-expected comps. However, we believe the slowdown in the home building sector could affect the demand for the company’s home furnishing products in next few quarters. Moreover, continued slag in consumer spending in the U.S. due to slowdown in the economy keeps us from being too positive on the stock. “
