This year’s World Cup has become as much of an event in the digital and social spheres as it has on the field. Of the 32 competing teams, 30 have official Twitter accounts, and at least one player from every squad represents his team (including Iran, which currently doesn’t support Twitter use in the country). Twitter released a video advertisement promoting #WorldCup on its platform, which states: “For 32 days, the whole world dreams the same dream.” And it’s true — no matter where you are, whether you want to interact with other fans, read statistical analyses or catch behind-the-scenes glimpses, social media weaves us all together with an integrated, second-screen experience.
