Decline In IPhone Theft Points To ‘Kill Switch’
A “kill switch” to disable stolen iPhones appears to be reducing thefts of the Apple Inc. device, law-enforcement officials in New York and California said Thursday. Google Inc. and Microsoft Corp. are now following Apple’s lead, planning to put similar technology into devices using their software. In New York City, robberies and grand larcenies from a person involving Apple products dropped 19% and 29%, respectively, in the first five months of 2014, compared with a year earlier.
