Luxury Cars, Banks Targeted As Brazil Protest Turns Violent
Damage totaling over a million U.S. dollars was wrought in the streets of Brazil’s biggest city, Sao Paulo, on Thursday by violent elements of a march led by protesters seeking free public transportation. The rally was celebrating a year since the city’s authorities backed down on a 10-cent hike in transit fares in the city. The proposed increases sparked mass protests last June, as Brazil held the Confederations Cup, when over a million people took to the streets in over 300 cities, with a wide range of grievances against the government and the World Cup.
