As a wave of strikes plaguing France in recent weeks reached the two main air traffic controllers’ unions, chaos has started to spread to airports, in addition to already-disrupted train stations and ferries, affecting tens of thousands of travelers. French officials are warning passengers to expect “heavy disruption” to travel this week , and although they have promised that a minimum of half their scheduled flights would be maintained, misery for tourists and other travelers is the likely outcome. The current disagreement – part of a long-running battle over proposed pension system reforms, new “business-friendly” policies, budget cuts and austerity plans – will trigger the cancellation, rescheduling and rerouting of hundreds of flights starting Tuesday.
