World Cup: ‘Messi’ Film To Premiere In Rio De Janeiro
Production house Mediapro announced Thursday that Spanish cult director Alex de la Iglesia’s documentary Messi –a tribute to the Argentine striker Lionel Messi — will premiere July 2 in Rio de Janeiro timed to coincide with the World Cup 2014 taking place in Brazil,. Based on a script from Argentine soccer great Jorge Valdano and using real footage of the only four-time Balon d’Or winner from the age of four onwards, De la Iglesia’s film boasts the collaboration of Maradona, Johann Cruyff, Cesar Luis Menotti, Andres Iniesta and Alejandro Sabella to name a few. Messi, who is widely considered the greatest soccer player of all time, was born to a humble family in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina and was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency at age 11. Spain’s FC Barcelona paid the bill of his expensive treatment after seeing the child’s potential.
