A U.K. regulator responsible for enforcing the country’s Data Protection Act said it is looking into a controversial experiment Facebook conducted on roughly 700,000 unwitting users. Facebook is facing criticism for a 2012 experiment that manipulated the content users saw in their news feeds to test whether emotions spread on the social network. Some users were shown more positive posts in their news feed, and others more negative posts. Facebook said the experiment affected only English-speaking users, but didn’t say whether the experiment crossed international borders.
