Press Release: Big Vietnamese American Rally to Protest Chinese Oil Rig
LIGHTNING RELEASES — WASHINGTON, July 4, 2014.- Thousands of Vietnamese Americans and their friends in town to celebrate July 4 are taking advantage of their presence in the Nation’s capital to protest the presence of a Chinese giant oil rig, HYSY 981, in Vietnamese waters in the South China Sea since early May this year.
On Sunday, July 6, the demonstration in front of the Chinese Embassy, planned to take place at 11 am, will be followed by a song festival at Freedom Plaza, from 1 to 4 pm, celebrating the Vietnamese tradition of heroic resistance against foreign aggression and calling on the world to condemn the Chinese blatant act which threatens the peace and stability of the region. Several of the songs will be by composers currently in jail for having written them.
At least a dozen of the most famous stars from Asia Entertainment will be there to celebrate the occasion, including Truc Ho, Nguyen Khang, Y Phuong, Lam Thuy Van, Lam Nhat Tien, Dan Nguyen, Mai Thanh Son, Doan Phi, Dang The Luan, Huynh Phi Tien, Hoang Anh Thu, Nga My, Ngoc Minh, SBTN news anchor Dieu Quyen and Victoria To Uyen.
This whole extravaganza is being sponsored by SBTN (Saigon Broadcasting Television Network), based in Garden Grove, California, with the active support of some 197 Vietnamese organizations around the country and even abroad, including the Vietnamese Community of DC-MD-VA and NCVA.
The Vietnamese Americans will be joined by Filipino Americans, Tibetans, and other nationalities with grievances against China’s new imperialism. Attendance at the musical event is free, and the media are welcome to cover it.
