Myanmar Buddhists Threaten Death To Muslims In Mandalay Unrest
Hundreds of Buddhists threatened to kill Muslims as they rode on motorcycles through Myanmar’s second-largest city of Mandalay on Friday, raising the prospect of further communal violence after two people died in unrest earlier in the week. Most of the victims have been members of Myanmar’s Muslim minority, estimated to be about 5 percent of the population. A Muslim man was also killed, beaten to death early on Thursday on his way to morning prayers. Police said 19 people were hurt in the riots in the central Myanmar city of about a million people on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
