Amazon Skirts French Law With A ’1 Penny Per Order’ Surcharge
In an effort to level the playing field between online retailers and physical stores, France recently enacted a law prohibiting Amazon from offering a 5% discount and free shipping. A delivery charge of one penny per order for any order with books. The e-commerce giant announced the move on the French version of its website, noting that the $0.01 charge is the minimum required by law.
