Energy Drinks Mixed With Alcohol Make You Want To Drink More: Study
That vodka Red Bull you’re knocking back might be worse for you than you thought. A new study published in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research says consuming alcoholic beverages mixed with energy drinks could increase the urge to drink. In the double-blind study, participants aged 18 to 30 years old were given either 60 ml of vodka and Red Bull or 60 ml of vodka and soda water. Both were then mixed with 200 ml of a fruit drink. Participants responded to an “Alcohol Urge Questionnaire” before, and 20 minutes after, consuming the beverage. The researchers graphed their results. Participants drinking alcohol mixed with an energy drink had a greater urge to drink than those who consumed alcohol alone.
