German chip maker Infineon Technologies said it agreed to buy International Rectifier for about $3 billion in cash, a deal that would broaden Infineon’s semiconductor product offerings and regional presence. The offer values International Rectifier at $40 a share, a 51% premium to Tuesday’s close. Shares of International Rectifier surged in response to the offer and approached the bid price.
