Tony Stewart hasn’t been back on the race track since his Sprint car struck and killed a fellow driver earlier this month, and at this rate it’s looking like the three-time NASCAR champion’s “comeback” season may be over. Stewart is skipping the Saturday night race at Bristol Motor Speedway, making the short Tennessee oval the fourth race and the third Sprint Cup event he’s missed since the death of Kevin Ward Jr. The team he co-owns, Stewart-Haas Racing, said he’s taking it week-by-week, but with only two races left, it’s increasingly likely that the driver they call “Smoke” won’t be behind the wheel until at least next year.
