It’s no secret that Uber can be cutthroat against its competitors, but a new report suggests the taxi startup’s tactics may be more suspect than some assumed. The Verge reports that Uber has assembled a “street team” and provided them with phones and credit card numbers to create Lyft accounts, which can then be used to order rides and recruit drivers from the rival service. The program, which The Verge describes as a “sabotage campaign,” is said to be called Operation SLOG. The effort, which Uber appears to be rolling out nationally, has already resulted in thousands of canceled Lyft rides and made it more difficult for its rival to gain a foothold in new markets.
