JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) Spent $1.5 Million in Q1 Lobbying

JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) spent more than $1.5 million lobbying the federal government during the first quarter on financial regulatory overhaul and mortgage lending.

The company’s first-quarter lobbying spending was a 15% jump compared to JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM)’s Q1 2009 lobbying spending. However, the first quarter lobbying spending was a 19% decline from the company’s Q4 2009 lobbying spending.

The New York-based financial company lobbied both houses of Congress, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Treasury Department, Securities and Exchange Commission, Commodity Futures Trading Commission, U.S. Trade Representative, State Department and Department of Commerce.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) lobbied the government about Congress’s broad financial regulatory overhaul legislation tied to provisions involving credit card transaction feeds, mortgage lending, derivatives, taxing overseas income, financial planning and energy trading programs.

The House of Representatives approved a final version of the financial reform bill last week, but the Senate will likely not vote on the legislation until the middle of the month.
