Hewlett-Packard Announces Email Printing Platform (NYSE: HP)

Hewlett-Packard announced its new ePrint platform on Monday and a new line of printers which will have the capability of printing documents that are emailed to the device.

Users of the printers can simple send a web page or document to an email address associated with the printer, then the receiving printer will process and print out the material. The ePrint platform also allows users to store files on the cloud and print them as need.

“We know that our customers want an easy way to print their content, anywhere, anytime,” said Vyomesh Joshi, executive VP of HP’s imaging and printing group, in a press release. “We’re making that a reality today by giving people the power to print from any Web-connected device — smartphones, iPads, netbooks, and more — to any printer in our portfolio above $99.”

The printers begin at $99.00 for the HP Photosmart e-All-In-One which is slated to be available in North America beginning this month. The device features a 2.4″ touch screen and has its own unique email address. There are also three additional printers that HP is announcing , including the HP Photosmart Premium Fax e-All-in-One machine, which allows users to fax, scan, and copy materials using a touch screen interface. The high-end version will be available for $299 in September.

The new line of printers add onto Last Year’s Photosmart Premium and TouchSmart Web printers which had software which allowed users to navigate popular sites like Google, Fandago and Coupons.com. The new technology relies heavily on the printers ability to talk to cloud computing platforms without interfacing with software on a local computer.
