Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) has announced two new engines for its Mondeo line of sedans. The recent announcement adds the company’s Ecoboost turbocharged gasoline engine, an updated version of the Duratorq TDCI diesel engine and the Powershift dual-clutch six speed transmission to the sedan.
The new 2.0 liter Ecoboost engine pushes out 203PS of power and 221 lb-ft of torque. The new power train can achieve 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds and offers a max speed of 114mph. The engine is attached to a Powershift dual-clutch gearbox and delivers a 19% improvement in fuel economy compared to the previous 2.3 liter engines. The new engine allows the Mondeo to get 36.6 miles per gallon.
The improved version of the 2.0-litre Ford Duratorq TDCi engine is available in three different power and torque levels, including 113hp/300Nm (221 lb-ft), 138 hp/320Nm (236 lb-ft) and 161 hp/340 (251 lb-ft). Fuel economy for models using the Duratorq TDCi engine is 53.2 miles per gallon. The diesel-powered vehicles have six-speed manual transmission as standard while PowerShift dual-clutch gearbox is offered as an option.
The eco-boost model is available in the U.K. with a starting price of £22,095 while the diesel-powered models begin at £18,995 for the 113 horsepower engine, £19,245 for the 138 horsepower version and £19,895 for the 161 horsepower unit.
