Sprint Can’t Keep HTC Evo in Stock (NYSE: S)

Demand for the new HTC EVO 4G smartphone is continuing to exceed the available supply. The new Android-based smart-phone debuted last Friday, but Sprint’s (NYSE: S) website has been out of stock of the phone since just a couple of days after the launch of the device.

The HTC Evo 4G’s feature set has attracted a lot of attention from the media, including a large, high-resolution touch screen, a fast 1 GHZ Snapdragon processor, a fourth-generation “4G” cellular-wireless networking technology called WiMax and the device will soon offer the ability to video chat. Other features include 8GB of storage, GPS, an 8 megapixel camera and Wifi.

Sprint sold twice as many HTC Evo 4G units as it had ever sold previously for any smart phone on a single day. HTC has not been able to keep up with Demand and sprint stores nationwide ran out of stock earlier in the week. A fresh supply of units came in a few days into the launch, but that supply was quickly exhausted.

Sprint’s website is now telling consumers that “Sorry, this device is so hot we can’t keep it on our virtual shelves. Check back later – more are on their way!” Sprint is not currently taking pre-orders and there is no word as to when the next shipment will arrive.

The HTC Evo is available exclusively from Sprint and is selling for $200 with a two-year contract.
