Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ: MSFT) Kin Smart Phone Receives Tribute Site

Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ: MSFT)’s Kin smart phone only was on the market for a few weeks before the Redmond-based company killed the product. Many are light-heartedly morning the loss of the Kin and a new tribute site, KinRIP.com, has been setup to make sure that the phones are not forgotten.

The website features pictures of the Kin One and the Kin Two as well a place for people to leave their own testimonials and the ability to light a virtual candle for the line of phones. If you turn up your computers volume, you’ll hear a rendition of the song “Gone too Soon.”

“It was the Pontiac Aztec of cell phones,” wrote Mark Cordova in one tribute. “It will be missed.”

The Kin memorial website was created by Shmuel Tennenhaus, a Seattle native who has created a number of unique websites in the past, such as “Ask a Jew” and BingandKing.com, a website which combined Microsoft’s Bing search engine and Don King’s hair. Tennenhaus said he did not own a Kin himself, nor did he know anyone personally with one. “Kin lived a short life, but it will be remembered for a long time,” Tennenhaus said in an e-mail interview with CNET. “So, I spent $10 and 15 minutes creating an easy place for people to light a candle in memory.”
