Citigroup’s South Asia Chief Resigns after 18 Months on the Job (NYSE: C)

Citigroup’s (NYSE: C) South Asia CEO Mark Robinson has resigned from his position after being on the job for less than 18 months on the job, according to several sources. Citigroup said that Robinson will be succeeded by Pramit Jhaveri, head of global banking at Citigroup’s Indian unit and vice chairman for Asia investment banking.

Robinson filed his resignation papers during the first weekend of March and will take over as the CEO, South and South-East Asia, for Australian bank ANZ. His new assignment will cover 10 countries including India, reported Indian financial daily Economic Times.

Robinson took the position as Citigroup’s South Asia CEO in November 2008 after Sanjay Nayar, who previously held the job, left the company to join private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.

Previously, Roberts had been with Citigroup for more than 25 before becoming CEO of the company’s South Asia unit. He held various positions including president of Citibank ZAO and as country officer for Russia.

Jhaveri, who has had more than 20 years of service with Citigroup, will now lead the company’s business in south east Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh.
