Doctors in Japan Use iPad as Surgery Tool (NASDAQ: AAPL)

Japanese doctors recently made use of OsiriX, an imaging application for the Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPad, to help visualized a patient’s internal anatomy and cancerous legions during an operation. Doctors interacted with the iPad using swipes, pinches and zooms on a series of images and animations to get a better feel for the patient’s internals.

Overall, the iPad has been received well by the medical community at large. Several medical applications, such as OsiriX, WebMD, ECG Guide, Mediquations Medical Calculator and others have been developed for the iPad.

Although there have been a number of medical community-friendly applications released, this is the first documented instance of an iPad being used as a surgical tool.
