General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) Recalls 181,000 Washing Machines

General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) will be recalling about 181,000 front-loading washing machines because of hazards due to fire and shock, according to a report from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The CPSC said that a faulty wire can lead to a fire when it comes into contact with a metal part on the wash-tube during operation.

Several incidents of minor smoke damage have been reported, but no injuries from the malfunctioning washers have occurred yet.

The machines, manufactured in China, were sold at U.S. retailers from December 2006 to May 2010 for about $700.00.
