Ford and Portland G.E. to Partner on Electric Vehicles (NYSE: F) (NYSE: GE)

Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) and Portland General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) are entering into a partnership in which the two companies will share information about vehicle charging needs as both companies prepare to produce higher numbers of electric cars in the years ahead.

Dearborn, MI-based Ford announced on Tuesday that it plans to bring five new electric vehicles on the market during the next two years, including an electric version of its Transit Connect commercial van.

“To support the roll out and acceptance of these vehicles it is important to work with local utilities to make sure the necessary infrastructure and grid capability are ready,” commented Mike Tinskey, Ford manager of vehicle electrification and infrastructure, in a statement this week.

Portland General Electric and Ford will share information about the charging needs of vehicles, with the goal of making sure that the electric grid will be able to support the higher demand for electricity from there being more electric cars on the road.

Officials from Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) are touring 14 cities to promote their upcoming electric vehicles. Portland was the first stop on the tour.

Shares of Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) traded down 1.27% hitting $11.10 during mid-day trading on Wednesday.
