State MBA Programs are Gaining Popularity across America

According to a recent study, close to 90% of MBA graduates secure a job three months after graduation. As a result, state MBA programs are gaining popularity across the nation. Universities in the state of Mississippi have excellent MBA programs. We look at two of them: one in detail, the other in brief.

University of Mississippi

Masters of Business Administration (MBA) programs are gaining in popularity across the nation. One example is the University of Mississippi’s MBA program. For the past few years, it has scored highly in the Bloomberg Businessweek News Service (BBW) MBA rankings. In fact, the BBW recently ranked the program at number thirty-six in the US. Another ranking body, College Choice, ranked it at number one. The US News & World Report, on the other hand, placed it at number twenty-one.

Needless to say, the university’s School of Business Administration members of staff are thrilled at the rankings. Ken Cyree, the dean, is one of them. He attributes the popularity of the program to the faculty and board’s commitment to excellence. He is also proud of the work students put in, and is optimistic about the future. To him, the attention and recognition the MBA is getting is well-deserved.

A Quality Program

To Ashley Jones, director of admissions, the program’s success is as a result its quality. She then goes on to explain why the quality is so high. For one, the quality of the MBA is the same as that of programs taught by top researchers in the business field. In addition, the curriculum covers a broad range of business skills, she adds. These include: finance, entrepreneurship, marketing, and accounting. Current and future trends in business are also taught.

Walter Davis, faculty director of MBA programs, attributes the quality of the MBA to the qualifications of the faculty. He says the faculty comprises of experts in every field of business. Many of them have even published in prestigious journals, he goes on to say. The diverse qualification of faculty staff allows the school to accommodate students from non-business backgrounds. These students are often employed and looking to improve their qualifications, Davis says. To accommodate them, the school has an online MBA degree option that is similar to that of Rutgers Online University’s highly-rated online MBA program.

Mississippi State University (MSU)

The Mississippi State University also prides itself in the success of its online MBA program. The US News & World Report ranks the program at number 18 nationwide, and this is good news to Sharon Oswald, the MSU College of Business dean. She says the faculty works hard on the MBA program. Because of their efforts, the online MBA offers students the same benefits as the full-time program. The faculty also tries to understand and support the needs of working students, she adds.

The skills a student learns while studying for an MBA are applicable in any field of business. For this reason, MBA graduates are in high demand. Nine out of ten of them secure a job within a few months of completing their studies.
