JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) has hired away Bank of America Corp (NYSE: BAC) Deputy General Counsel Gregory Baer to manage JPMorgan’s global regulation and corporate legal matters. The announcement was made by JPMorgan General Counsel Stephen Cutler in an internal company memo yesterday, which was obtained by Bloomberg Businessweek.
Baer, age 48, will be responsible for wrangling with new laws in the finance industry and manage corporate legal matters ranging from U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filings to M&A activity.
Cutler said in the memo that Baer “brings with him a wealth of experience from the private and public sectors.” Baer held similar duties at Bank of America, the biggest U.S. bank by assets, where he was also deputy general counsel overseeing the regulatory group.
Baer was targeted by protestors earlier in the year when activists organized by labor unions and community groups surrounded his home, chanting “Bank of America, bad for America.”
