Ford (NYSE: F) to Offer Free In Home Charging Stations to EV Buyers

Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) announced on Wednesday that it will provide nearly 5,000 in-home charging stations for buyers of the 2011 Ford Transit Connect Electric.

Ford said that it would be partnering with Coulomb Technologies to offer free in-home charging stations to some of its first elective vehicle customers.

Buyers will be eligible for free stations in the following markets: Austin; Detroit; Los Angeles; New York; Orlando, Florida; Sacramento, California; the San Francisco Bay area; Redmond, Washington; and Washington, D.C.

Ford said that the program is possible because of a grant received through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act’s Transportation Electrification Initiative which is being administered by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Separately, Nissan announced that the first 4,700 buyers of the 2011 Nissan Leaf will also get free in-home charging stations.
